10 Best Design Agencies for Startups Preparing a Series A Raise - August 2026

The partner is not the reader to optimise for. The site matters because it changes your numbers before you walk in. We checked 10 agencies on five criteria.

Siddarth Ponangi

Founder, Studio Maydit

Design partner for AI companies

We design products and websites for AI companies that help them look and feel like a category leader.

The best design agencies for startups preparing a Series A raise in 2026 are Studio Maydit, Foundey, Refokus, 8020, Edgar Allan, Lighthouse Digital, BX Studio, basement.studio, Lazarev, and Trueform. Studio Maydit and 8020 lead for teams in this window, because both have worked with companies at exactly this stage and both can ship inside the weeks you have rather than the quarter you do not. Edgar Allan and Foundey are the wrong fit for most, since one is built for large content operations and the other hands off design without building it, and neither shape suits a team that needs something live before a process starts.

The partner is not the reader you should be optimising for.

Partners decide on the meeting, the numbers, and whether they believe you can build the company. Almost none of that comes from your website, and a beautiful site has never rescued a weak growth chart. Founders know this and still spend the pre-raise weeks on a redesign, because a website is one of the few things in a raise you can control.

The site does matter, but for two reasons that are easy to miss. The first is indirect. Whatever the site does to sign-ups, demo requests, and inbound quality between now and the process is what shows up in the numbers you present. That effect takes six to eight weeks to appear in a chart, which means today is roughly the last moment it can help.

The second is that a raise involves far more people than the partner. An associate will read your site before writing an internal note. A reference call will happen with a customer who found you through it. A candidate you want to hire in the first month after closing will judge you on it. Diligence is largely a search for reasons to be less enthusiastic, and a thin, stale, or inconsistent site provides several.

There is also a timing trap that catches careful teams. Rebuilding a site during a process can quietly break the very numbers the process is examining. That is worth understanding before anyone starts.

The ten studios below are ranked on how well they help a company in the eight weeks before a raise begins.

Most AI products look the same. Yours doesn't have to.

How we picked these agencies

This is a teardown, not a directory listing. For each agency we read their own site and their public record, then checked five things you can verify yourself in an afternoon:

  1. Platform depth. Is one craft their real specialism, or one line on a long service menu?

  2. AI-sector proof. Named AI clients and published work, or just the word "AI" in the copy?

  3. Pricing. Do they publish a minimum at all, or keep it behind a call?

  4. Team shape. Who actually does the work, and how many clients are they carrying at once?

  5. Their own site. Distinctive, or the same template as everyone else on this list?

That last one gets skipped most often. An agency's own website is the only project where nobody overruled them. No client committee, no inherited brand book. If their own site is forgettable, you have found their ceiling.

Every fact below comes from the agency's own site or a public listing. Where a number is not public, we say so rather than guessing.

What goes wrong in the eight weeks before a process starts

Three failures repeat, and each one costs something that cannot be recovered once the process is running.

The rebuild resets the numbers somebody is about to examine. This is the expensive one and hardly anyone sees it coming. New pages get new addresses, the old ones are not redirected properly, and search traffic dips for a month. Tracking is reinstalled and the events are named differently, so nothing before the launch can be compared to anything after it. A conversion rate that had been climbing all spring now has a gap in the middle of it, and the honest explanation, that you changed the site, sounds exactly like the dishonest one. If you are inside eight weeks of a process, change copy and pages, not addresses, structure, or measurement.

The budget goes to the homepage and the checking happens elsewhere. Watch what an associate actually does. They read the homepage briefly, then they go looking for evidence that this is a real company with real customers. Careers, because a company that is hiring engineers is a company that is building. Pricing or a plain description of how you are bought. Docs or a changelog, because dated activity is hard to fake. Security or a trust page, because their portfolio companies get asked for one. Those pages are usually the oldest and thinnest on the site, and they are the ones being read closely.

The raise consumes the only person who can approve anything. Once the process starts, the founder is in meetings from morning to evening for six weeks, and the founder is the sole approver of copy, positioning, and everything else. The project reaches eighty percent and stops there. A half-updated site, with three new pages in one voice and nine old ones in another, is worse than the site you started with, because inconsistency reads as disorganisation. Either finish before the first partner meeting or agree a smaller scope you can complete in the time you genuinely have.

1. Studio Maydit: A Top-Rated Design Agency for AI Founders

Studio Maydit is a web and product design studio working with AI founders in the US, UK, and Europe. The studio builds websites in Framer, Webflow, and custom code, and continues into product design after the site ships.

The clearest outcome is Dualite, where design work supporting a repositioned ICP helped the product reach 100,000+ users in seven months. Recent clients include Wave, PixelFlow, Mi-VAD, and 15 other AI and SaaS teams.

Websites can be bought two ways. Fixed scope runs three to four weeks and suits teams with a launch date. Teams that keep shipping take a monthly retainer instead, covering new pages, campaigns, and product design, with no long lock-in. Fixed-scope projects end with a diagnosis of what is leaking in the product, not a handoff and goodbye.

2. Foundey

Foundey is a San Francisco studio founded in 2021, working in Figma, with DemandIQ, Traycer, and Sero AI named, plus published AI client work. Their clients are early companies at roughly your stage, so the conversation starts from a shared understanding of what matters now and what can wait until after the money lands.

They hand over design files rather than a live site, which is a poor shape when the clock is the constraint, and they publish no pricing and no team size.

3. Refokus

Refokus is a remote German team of 11 to 50, founded in 2021, working in Webflow, with Mural, BASF, Spotify, Yahoo, and BCG named. Their work carries a level of finish that makes a fifteen-person company look like a serious one, and if your concern is that the site undersells the team, that is precisely what they fix.

Their AI-sector proof is partial, they publish no pricing, and a studio with strong visual ambition wants time to explore, which is the resource you have least of right now.

4. 8020

8020 works from San Francisco and New York, founded in 2014, in Webflow, with Wave, Superlist, Pilot.com, Vanta, and Circle named. That list is close to a directory of companies who raised well, and it shows they have done this exact job before: taking a company from a scrappy site to one that stands up to scrutiny without losing what made it distinctive.

They publish no pricing and no team size, their AI-sector proof is partial, and they are in demand, so the calendar may not fit a compressed pre-raise window.

5. Edgar Allan

Edgar Allan is an Atlanta team of 51 to 200, founded in 2014, working in Webflow, with Porsche, Duracell, and NCR named. They handle large amounts of content reliably, which is useful if your thin supporting pages are the problem and you need many of them written and built at once.

Their AI-sector proof is partial, they publish no pricing, and a firm of that size runs an account process with a cadence that does not compress well into eight weeks.

6. Lighthouse Digital

Lighthouse Digital is a London Webflow studio with a published minimum and HelloSelf, Freetrade, and IGN named. Freetrade is the useful reference here, a company that had to look trustworthy to both retail customers and regulators at the same time, which is a similar balancing act to looking credible to customers and investors in the same eight weeks.

They have no published AI client work, no published team size, and no published founding year, so there is little to verify before committing to a tight timeline.

7. BX Studio

BX Studio is a New York team of 11 to 50 working in Webflow, with a published minimum and Reddit, Headspace, ASAPP, and Verifone named, plus published AI client work. Publishing a minimum matters more than usual right now, because it removes a qualification call from a calendar that is about to fill up. They are also strong at the unglamorous supporting pages that diligence actually reads.

They publish no founding year, and their work is built around marketing sites rather than product surfaces, so anything beyond the site needs someone else.

8. basement.studio

basement.studio works from Mar del Plata and Los Angeles, founded in 2018, with 11 to 50 people, in custom code, with a published minimum and Vercel, Cursor, ElevenLabs, Harvey AI, and Scale AI named. If part of your story is that serious technical companies use you, a site built to the standard those companies expect is a quiet supporting argument.

They are small so senior capacity is limited, a hand-coded site is slow to change once the raise is over and your message moves, and their strong style can take longer to agree than a compressed timeline allows.

9. Lazarev

Lazarev is a San Francisco team of 51 to 200, founded in 2015, with a published minimum and Payoneer, Peel, Elva, and Mozayix named, plus published AI client work. They are used to companies where the product is hard to explain quickly, and getting the explanation right is worth more before a raise than after it, because every conversation for the next three months starts from it.

They are large, so a small pre-raise engagement is not their priority, and their process assumes time for discovery that a fixed date does not allow.

10. Trueform

Trueform is a Swiss studio founded in 2022 working specifically in Framer, with a published minimum and Miro, Morning Brew, Bilt Rewards, and Gather named, plus published AI client work. Framer is the practical choice for this moment, because after launch your team can change copy without booking anyone, and copy is the thing that keeps changing while you are raising.

They publish no team size, they are small so availability is limited, and Swiss hours give a US team a single working window each day during a period when decisions need to be same-day.

How to choose between them

Sort by what is weakest right now.

The homepage undersells a good company. Refokus or 8020.

The supporting pages are thin and dated. BX Studio or Edgar Allan.

Nobody can explain the product in one sentence. Studio Maydit or Lazarev.

Your credibility rests on technical users. basement.studio or Trueform.

One test before signing. Tell them your first partner meeting is in six weeks and ask what they would not do. A studio that has worked with companies in this position will immediately protect your addresses, your tracking, and your search traffic, and will propose finishing a smaller thing completely. One that responds with a full discovery phase and a launch a week before your meeting has not understood what is at stake in the timing.
